WELCOME TO THE WEST CORNWALL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY HOME PAGE
|
|
The West Cornwall Astronomical Society has been flourishing for the last thirty years. We exist to improve public understanding of Astronomy by means of regular presentations, meetings and practical activities. Many people over the years have come to really enjoy their astronomy through involvement and membership of our society. We have a number of out of county members who maintain contact through this website.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
Members of the Society enjoy many benefits such as twice monthly meetings, two publications, and an equipment loan scheme. We welcome all to our meetings, from absolute beginners to more experienced astronomers and members are very willing to help and support those new to astronomy. Our, members are using webcams to capture planetary, lunar, planetary and stellar images which are made available to others through our gallery. Members are actively tracking down the Lunar 100 features which are recorded in our WCAS Lunar 100 Observation Log.
We make regular use of the Faulkes Telescope in Hawaii and the images that we have obtained can be viewed in our gallery. Our latest image of the Heron Galaxy, ngc 5395, has been published in The Faulkes Telescope News and in the Picture Gallery of the June 2007 edition of Astronomy Now.
Our WCAS bulletin board lets members discuss a wide range of topics and provides last minute news about meetings and venues.
We hope that you enjoy looking through our website and that you join us for one of our meetings. If you would be interested in joining WCAS or want to learn more about the benefits of being a member please visit our Membership page.
Visitors to Cornwall are very welcome to attend our meetings, please check our WCAS bulletin board first to view any last minute arrangements.
