David reported back on his astronomical observations during his recent trip.

New Crater on The Moon - Robin Waddling
The impact of a meteoroid forming a new crater, 3m deep and 14m in diameter, has been captured by a 10" telescope. A video stream may be found on the NASA website.

Venus Express - Brian Thomas
The south polar has recently been imaged showing a double vortex. Details can be found on the Universe Today website.

Noctilucent Clouds - Brian Thomas
In response to members' requests Brian gave an overview of this topic. The clouds are now thought to be the result of ice nucleation around dust particles with a terrestrial origin. They become visible when illuminated by the setting sun, when it is just below the horizon. This is best observed in the northern hemisphere in June and July and from latitudes between 50 and 65 degrees. The clouds themselves appear to correspond to four types, based upon their visual appearance, and are typically found at altitudes of 80-85 km. The Noctilucent Cloud Obervers Page is a good starting point.

Hubble Minute - Brian Thomas
This is a new video service. There are short video productions on various topics. Hubble Minute Video.
