Members were saddened to hear of the untimely death of Robert Barrett. Bob had been an active member of the society bringing much expertise and enthusiasm to our meetings. He will be particularly remembered for his talk on the use of the LTX 90 and for the time he spent as a webmaster. Recently he had contibuted to our Lunar 100 list. Bob will be sadly missed.
Introduction to Astronomy - Robin Hughes Robin provided an overview of the various astronomical objects that are visible outside of our solar system. These range from the various types of galaxy, the different types of nebulae; globular and open clusters. This Powerpoint presentation will be made available to local schools working with use on the Faulkes project.
Digital Images - Robin Hughes Robin shared with members the images that he had obtained with a webcam. These included some excellent images of the moon, Mars and Saturn. He then went on to show images that he had obtained with the society's MX7C camera. Robin has captured some amazing deep sky objects. Many of these will be posted in our gallery and may well replace some existing images.
Planning for Faulkes Observation Jan 2006 - Brian Thomas Brain Thomas demonstrated the society's upgraded version of Starry Night and used this to conduct a planning session for our coming observation slot on the 28th January 2006. A pair of colliding galaxies and various nebulae and open clusters were considered. Robin Hughes and Robin Waddling having suggested a number of less well known objects. Brian will develop an observing programme from these suggestions for our next meeting. Details will be posted in our Members area.
New Venue for Wednesday Meetings - David Taylor Thanks to the work of our Secretary, David Taylor, we have found a new venue for our Monday monthly meetings. This will be the Memorial Hall, Mawnan Smith.
