This was an informal meeting at the CPR Learning Space where members were invited to bring along ideas and contributions; presentations were informal.
Nature Abhors a Singularity - Bill Barlow Bill explored the idea that while the concept of a singularity was very acceptable and familiar to mathematicians, in the nature such situations might not actually arise. Examples can be found ranging from the collapse of gas clouds, the evaporation of black holes and in the formation of virtual particles pairs.
Orion Through The Years - Robin Waddling Robin presented his guide to Orion and considered the distance to some of the more prominent stars and how long the photons from those stars have been travelling through space to us. The light from Saiph (Kappa-Orionis) for example left the star at about the time that Julius Caesar was Emporer of Rome. Other examples were given. Robin reminded the audience that observers in the southern hemisphere of our planet would see Orion inverted in their night sky.
